Peer Support Team Leader
This position provides leadership, direction, and supervision for a Peer Support Program serving consumers of mental health services in Erie County. This person is responsible for ensuring that these services are provided in compliance with Contracts with Erie County and state directives and those services are delivered in a timely, respectful and consumer friendly manner. (S)He will make sure all necessary paperwork is completed in relation to these duties and that Certified Peer Specialist Staff have the resources necessary to perform their duties. This position will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the Peer Support Team including hiring/firing/discipline and supervision of workers.
Responsibilities
- Supervision and performance of Peer Support Program.
- Oversight of routine daily needs of PSP Team.
- Monitoring authorization and billing processes with Administrative staff .
- Training and mentoring PSP staff in the community.
- Quality management and utilization monitoring of PSP staff performance.
- Develops and maintains data base regarding service utilization.
- Interviews and hires PSP staff.
- Provides constant feedback to staff about performance.
- Develops corrective action plans as needed.
- Establishes policies specific to team and makes sure PSP Team operates within the MHA policies.
- Represents PSP team and MHA at forums relevant to Peer Support Programs.
- Represents PSP team at internal meetings.
- Participates in pertinent training opportunities.
Qualifications
- Education and/or work experience:
- Be a mental health professional who has completed the Departmentapproved CPS supervisory training within six months of hire; or
- Have a bachelor’s degree in sociology, social work, psychology, gerontology, anthropology, political science, history, criminal justice, theology, counseling, education or a related field from a program that is accredited by an agency recognized by the USDOE or the CHEA, or an equivalent degree from a foreign college or university approved by the USDOE; and two years of mental health direct service experience that may include PSS; and has completed the CPS Supervisory training curriculum approved by the Department within six months of hire; or
- Have an associate’s degree in sociology, social work, psychology, gerontology, anthropology, political science, history, criminal justice, theology, counseling, education or a related field from a program that is accredited by an agency recognized by the USDOE or the CHEA, or an equivalent degree from a foreign college or university approved by the USDOE; with three years of mental health direct service experience and have completed the CPS Supervisory training curriculum approved by the Department within six months of hire; or
- Have a high school diploma or GED and four years of mental health direct service experience that may include, but not limited to PSS and crisis services; and have completed the CPS supervisory training curriculum approved by the Department within six months of hire.
- Anyone who becomes a Certified Peer Specialist Supervisor in a Medicaid-billable program must complete the Peer Specialist Supervisor training within six months of taking the position of peer support supervisor. The Supervisor training is a two-day course provided by the three approved training vendors in Pennsylvania: the Institute for Recovery, RI Consulting and the Copeland Center for Wellness and Recovery.
- Have computer skills with Microsoft Office Products, WORD, EXCEL, ACCESS.
- Knowledge of the Erie County Mental Health Services System, and other community resources.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Vision, Mission, Values of the MHA. Act 33/34 and Act 151 Clearances.
- Commitment to standards of confidentiality.
- Ability to monitor, evaluate and give feedback to employees about their performance.
- Intimate knowledge of housing fair rights and peer support regulations.
- Knowledge of internal resources as well as resources in the community.
- Excellent ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Good organizational skills.
- Able to function autonomously to make crucial decisions.
- Proven ability to advocate effectively for self and others.
- Have a valid PA drivers license and access to own transportation.
